James Coman, MD | Board Certified Cardiac Electrophysiologist

Ablation, Pacemaker & Defibrillator Implantation, Rhythm Management

Dr. Coman completed his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University in 1986, where he graduated summa cum laude and second in his class. He then attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine and subsequently completed his residency in Internal Medicine at UAB, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Following this training, Dr. Coman moved to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for his Cardiology Fellowship. Upon completion of this specialized training, he began his Fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology, also at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he was also the Chief Fellow for the Electrophysiology Program.

After completion of his training, Dr. Coman came to Tulsa, where he has been practicing Cardiac Electrophysiology since 1996. He has been the principle investigator on countless research projects, which have ranged from the newest pacing lead materials, landmark studies for development of our newest implanted electronic devices, to new techniques allowing MRI scans on patients with permanent pacemakers and defibrillators.

Dr. Coman spends much of his time on educational projects. He has delivered several hundred invited lectures, across the United States, Europe and Asia over the past 11 years in an effort to increase awareness for sudden cardiac death and its cure, device therapy for congestive heart failure, and the relative safety of MRI scanning in patients with implanted medical devices. Dr. Coman has also trained numerous cardiologists across the United States in the techniques of pacemaker and defibrillator implantation.
